about
British born artist Sandra Ward has been a student of the world since beginning her fine art studies at Rhodes University, South Africa. Since those early University days she has studied Print Making Techniques at Durham University, UK and Digital Art Techniques at various institutions in Philadelphia, U.S.A.
Sandra's personal artwork is an eclectic mix of varying subjects and media. You will see everything from highly personal family portraits to chunky cityscapes and painterly reflections of the English countryside. Each piece has a life of it's own and seems to almost vibrate off of the canvas or page. Through the use of bold color and thick boxy outlines, Sandra has cultivated a style that is uniquely her own.
Since settling in Pittsburgh, in the nineties, Sandra has been heavily influenced by her surroundings. Her artwork often features the varied architectural landscapes and historic landmarks of the city. Many of these pieces are showcased in her Mount Lebanon studio as well as other venues throughout the area. Sandra maintains strong ties to the Pittsburgh art community through her work as a teacher, as a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and through her participation in local art shows.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
